The story follows Sgt. Daniel Black nicknamed Blackjack for his love of gambling and risk taking. He is part of the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, 1968. His company is tasked with going up into North Vietnamese territory to scout for enemy strongholds and a suspected POW camp. Aided by intelligence from the navy SEALs they go up the "Meatgrinder" mountain as it has been nicknamed by the troops to find the POW camp.
The sun risesEdit
The rain fell like a thousand little bullets every second. Vietnam's monsoon season was here again. I had seen it once before and dreaded the thought of coming back to have my body, my belongings, my gun and everything else destroyed in this never stopping, never ending, cold fucking rain.
But here I am, back in 'Nam and the rain's falling again.
"Sergeant?" I heard the Captain call.
"Are you Ok?" For a man who killed people for a living Captain McKnight sounded generally concerend for me. 3 years I had known him, this is the first time I ever saw him look concerned.
"I understand you went through a lot and the last thing you want to do at the moment is talk about it but CentCom needs to know what happened."
He was right. I didn't want to talk about it. Not to him not to anyone. Not now or any other moment in fucking time. But if I don't then more people die, more of us unlucky bastards who chose to stand up for freedom, serve our country and destroy the communist plague. So I find my self reliving everything. And te more I remember, the harder it gets.
